Johnson Exhibition, Pembroke College, Oxford

johnson booksDuring the conference, delegates will have the opportunity to visit the Exhibition Room at Pembroke where there will a be a range of Johnson exhibits, including records of Johnson’s time as an undergraduate at Pembroke in 1728-9, the manuscripts of Johnson’s ‘Prayers and Meditations’ (the notebooks in which he irregularly kept diaries and recorded private reflections), some of Johnson’s books and letters, as well as a selection of first editions of his published work, including the translation of Pope’s ‘Messiah’ into Latin verse, which Johnson wrote during the Christmas vacation of 1728-9  while at Pembroke). There will also be a range of other related texts and artefacts.

The Exhibition can be visited on Saurday 8th August, 4.30-6.00 p.m. and on  Sunday 9th August, 2-5 p.m.
