Delegates at the Conference will have the opportunity to view Samuel Johnson’s own copy of William Warburton’s 1747 edition of Shakespeare’s Works, complete with Johnson’s annotations. Courtesy of the Hugh Owen Library at the University of Aberystwyth, the Warburton Shakespeare will be making a unique visit to Oxford for the conference, and will be exhibited in the Exhibition Room at Pembroke College. The Warburton text, and Johnson’s engagement with it, is the subject of a number of the papers to be given during the conference. The text is part of the Powell collection at the University of Aberystwyth, and the conference organizers are very grateful for the opportunity to exhibit it as part of the events marking the anniversary of Johnson’s own edition of Shakespeare.
